Text-to-Give (SMS keyword giving)

Let donors give by texting a keyword to your Tormano number and getting an instant giving link back.

Text-to-Give lets a donor give from anywhere by texting a short keyword to your Tormano number. They instantly receive a secure link to your donation form, and every person who texts is captured as a lead on their timeline. The gift itself is completed on your existing donation form, so it settles through Stripe exactly like any other online gift.

Before you start

You need at least one published donation form (Fundraising > Donation Forms). Each keyword points donors at one of your forms.

Setting up a keyword

Go to Settings > Integrations > Text-to-Give. You'll see your text-to-give number at the top. Enter a keyword (letters and numbers, for example HOPE2026), choose which donation form it points to, and optionally write a custom reply message. Keywords are shared across all Tormano nonprofits, so pick a distinctive one. Save it and share "Text HOPE2026 to <your number>" on flyers, screens, and from the stage.

How giving works

  • A donor texts your keyword (for example HOPE2026). They can add an amount, like HOPE2026 50, to suggest $50.
  • Tormano texts back your giving link, pre-filled with the amount when one was included.
  • The donor completes the gift on your donation form. It records like any other online donation.
  • The texter is saved as a contact (matched by phone) with a note on their timeline showing the keyword and link, so you can follow up.

Custom reply message

In the reply message you can use {link} for the giving link, {amount} for a texted amount, and {form} for the form name. Leave it blank to use the default thank-you message.

Compliance

Standard carrier messaging rates apply to donors. If a donor replies STOP they are unsubscribed; HELP returns help text. Those carrier keywords can't be used as giving keywords.
