Online donations require a connected Stripe account. Tormano uses Stripe Connect so donations go directly to your nonprofit's bank account, not Tormano's.
Where to connect
Settings > Payments (a top-level settings page titled "Payment Settings"). The Stripe Connection section has a Connect Stripe Account button.
Connecting
- Open Settings > Payments and click Connect Stripe Account.
- You're taken to Stripe to create or link an account.
- Complete Stripe's verification process - identity and bank account. Stripe handles payment processing, security, and compliance.
- Back in Tormano, the section shows your status: Connected and Active (or "Onboarding In Progress" until verification finishes), along with your Stripe account ID and whether Charges and Payouts are enabled.
What online donations cost
Your organization pays two fees on every online donation, and both are taken out of the same transaction before the money reaches you:
- Stripe's processing fee - charged by Stripe. Stripe's standard US rate is 2.9% + 30 cents per successful card charge. ACH and international cards are priced differently, and your exact rate is set by Stripe and itemised in your own Stripe dashboard.
- Tormano's platform fee - 2.00% per transaction on the Nonprofit edition. (The Business edition is charged 0.25%; see Stripe (payments and donations).)
All in, a typical card donation costs about 4.9% + 30 cents. On a $100 gift that is roughly $5.20 in total fees, leaving about $94.80 settled to your account.
Gifts you record manually in Tormano carry no platform fee. The Payment Settings page shows the exact platform-fee percent applied to your account once connected.
Donation forms
Once Stripe is connected, build the forms donors actually give through at Settings > Donation Forms. Gifts made through those forms are recorded automatically against the donor with the Stripe charge ID as the reference.
