SMS campaigns and templates

Text message marketing through Twilio with opt-out compliance.

2 min read · Updated Jul 4, 2026

SMS is sent through Twilio.

Setup

Connect Twilio, then build and send from Messages (/sms-campaigns). For US sending you'll want a registered A2P 10DLC campaign; international can use an alphanumeric sender.

Building a campaign

Open Messages and start a new SMS campaign. Pick a template or write fresh, choose your audience (saved view, tag, or list), preview the estimated cost, and send.

Templates

Reusable like email templates. SMS templates support the {{first_name}} merge field (and a few others such as {{last_name}}, {{company}}, {{email}}). Watch the character count — a message up to 160 characters is one segment; longer messages split into multiple segments and cost more.

Opt-out and consent

Recipients can text STOP at any time; when Twilio reports a STOP, Tormano records the opt-out and excludes that number from all future SMS. Note that Tormano does not automatically append "Reply STOP to opt out" text to your message, so include your own opt-out language where your compliance requires it. Bulk marketing SMS is sent only to contacts who have given express (positive) opt-in — having a phone number on file is not enough.

Cost

Twilio charges per segment — roughly $0.0079 per segment in the US. Tormano shows the estimated cost before you confirm the send.
