Double the Donation matching gifts and volunteer grants

Connect your Double the Donation account to find matching gifts for donors and volunteer grants for volunteers.

5 min read · Updated Aug 13, 2026

Double the Donation finds out whether a donor's employer will match their gift, and whether a volunteer's employer offers a volunteer grant or paid volunteer time off (VTO) - then runs the follow-up outreach for you.

This integration is on the Nonprofit edition and needs your own Double the Donation account.

Before you start

You need an active Double the Donation account. If you do not have one, the settings page links to Double the Donation's demo and quote request. Double the Donation Volunteering is a paid add-on and is not included in the Essentials plan.

Connect your account

  1. Open Settings > Integrations > Double the Donation.
  2. In Double the Donation, open your account settings and copy your public key and your private key.
  3. Paste both into Tormano and click Verify & Connect.

Tormano checks the pair with Double the Donation before saving anything, so a mistyped key is refused straight away instead of failing quietly later. Your private key is stored encrypted and is only used server-side to verify the account. Only the public key is ever sent to a donor's browser.

The page then shows your subscription status, your feature tier, how many donations have been registered, and when the most recent one was.

What donors see

Once connected, an Employer matching gift (optional) search appears on your public donation forms. A donor types their employer, picks it from Double the Donation's company list, and that choice is stored with the gift.

After the gift completes, the thank-you page shows Double the Donation's matching-gift plugin for that specific donation - the employer's match guidelines and forms, and a way to start the match request.

If a donor cannot find their employer, they can leave the search empty and carry on. It is optional and never blocks a donation, and Double the Donation still tries to identify the employer from the donor's email afterwards.

If your organization has not connected an account, none of this appears. Donors see the ordinary donation form, not an empty or broken matching box.

What happens to a completed gift

Completed online gifts are registered with Double the Donation automatically, usually within about 15 minutes. Registration passes the donor's name, email, phone, mailing address, the amount, the campaign, and the employer they picked, so Double the Donation can confirm eligibility and run the match-request emails.

Some gifts are deliberately never sent:

  • Anonymous gifts. A match request has to identify the donor to their employer, so a gift marked anonymous is never registered. There is no privacy-preserving way to do it, so Tormano does not do it at all.
  • Imported gifts. Gifts brought in by CSV or from your accounting system are skipped, so a historical backfill does not flood Double the Donation with old gifts.
  • Offline gifts. Cash, check, and manually recorded gifts with no online payment behind them are not registered.

Recurring gifts register each installment as it is paid.

What staff see

On the Donations list a registered gift carries a Matching badge showing its current status. Open the donation and a Matching Gift - Double the Donation panel shows the match status, the employer identification status, and when it was registered. These update as Double the Donation works the match.

Volunteering

If Volunteering is active on your Double the Donation account, the same employer search appears on your public volunteer sign-up pages. The volunteer's employer is saved onto their volunteer record and sent to Double the Donation to capture corporate volunteer grant and VTO eligibility. An Employer Volunteer Grant panel then appears on that volunteer's record.

Disconnecting

Click Disconnect on the settings page. Registration stops immediately. Gifts already registered stay with Double the Donation and finish their outreach.
