Volunteers are a specialized contact type in Tormano with extra fields for skills and scheduling.
Creating a volunteer
A volunteer is a contact with Volunteer lifecycle stage (or in addition to Donor / Member). Create one via + Quick Create > Volunteer or by upgrading an existing contact's lifecycle.
Volunteer-specific fields
- Skills — multi-select from a configurable list (Event setup, Tutoring, Bilingual, Driver, etc.).
- Availability — days of week + time windows.
- Certifications — CPR, First Aid, Background Check, Mandated Reporter training.
- Background check status — None / Pending / Cleared / Expired.
- Background check expiry date — for renewal reminders.
- T-shirt size — for events.
- Emergency contact.
Customize the field list in Settings > Custom Fields > Volunteers.
Volunteer dashboard
/nonprofit/volunteers shows total active volunteers, total hours YTD, upcoming shifts in the next 7 days, and engagement trends (volunteers who haven't logged hours in 90 days).
