Tags are flexible labels you can attach to any record. They're great for quick segmentation that doesn't justify a full custom field.
Manual tags
Add tags inline on any contact, deal, or donation. Type to filter existing tags or create a new one on the fly. Tag chips appear at the top of the record card and are clickable for filtering.
Bulk tagging
In any list, select multiple rows and use Actions > Add Tag or Remove Tag. The bulk action runs in the background and respects field permissions.
Smart tags (rules-based)
Smart tags apply automatically when records match a rule. Configure them in Settings > Tags > Smart Tags. Examples:
- Lapsed donor — auto-applies when a donor's last gift is older than 365 days.
- High-value deal — auto-applies when deal value exceeds $50,000.
- Board prospect — auto-applies when contact has a job title containing "Director" or "VP".
Smart tags re-evaluate on every record update. Records can leave a smart tag automatically when they no longer match.
Tag management
Settings > Tags lists every tag in your organization with usage counts. Merge duplicate tags, delete unused ones, or rename them globally — all changes propagate to every linked record.
