Tags and smart tags

Lightweight labels, plus auto-applied rules-based tags.

Tags are flexible labels you can attach to any record. They're great for quick segmentation that doesn't justify a full custom field.

Manual tags

Add tags inline on any contact, deal, or donation. Type to filter existing tags or create a new one on the fly. Tag chips appear at the top of the record card and are clickable for filtering.

Bulk tagging

In the Contacts list, select multiple rows and use the Tag bulk action to add a tag across all of them at once. The bulk action respects field permissions.

Smart tags (auto-apply by lifecycle stage)

Smart tags are tags that auto-apply to contacts based on their lifecycle stage. Set them up in the auto-apply section of Settings > Tags: give the tag a name and pick the lifecycle stage that should carry it (for example, a "Lapsed" tag that applies to every contact in the Lapsed stage). Lifecycle stage is the only criterion the auto-apply matcher supports today.

Auto-apply runs when you trigger it from that settings page — it isn't a per-record live rule — so re-run it after a batch of lifecycle-stage changes to refresh the tags.

Tag management

Settings > Tags lists every tag in your organization with usage counts. Merge duplicate tags, delete unused ones, or rename them globally — all changes propagate to every linked record.
