Custom fields let you track data Tormano doesn't ship by default — donor segments, board roles, school grade level, account tier, anything.
Where to manage them
Settings > Custom Fields. There's one tab per entity type: on B2B, Contacts, Companies, Deals, and Activities; on Nonprofit, Contacts, Donations, and Activities (the Companies and Deals tabs are hidden on Nonprofit, and the Donations tab is hidden on B2B). Pick the entity, click + Add Field. Each entity type can hold up to 50 custom fields.
Field types
Tormano supports nine field types:
- Text (single line, up to 10,000 characters)
- Number (integer or decimal)
- Date (with calendar picker)
- Yes/No (boolean checkbox)
- Dropdown (single) (single-select with custom options)
- Dropdown (multi) (multiple options at once)
- URL (validated as a link)
- Email (validated email address)
- Phone (validated phone number)
Per-program scoping (Nonprofits)
You can scope a custom field to a specific program tag, so it only appears on records associated with that program. Useful when, say, your "FL Field Trip Permit" field clutters every contact instead of just FL contacts. Set the Limit to program dropdown to the relevant tag.
Field permissions
Each field has its own visibility permissions. Settings > Field Permissions lets you control who can see and edit each custom field by role. Hidden fields don't appear in forms, lists, or exports for users who lack access.
Reordering and editing
Drag fields up and down to reorder them on forms. Edit any field to rename it, change options, or change visibility. Changing field type after data exists is restricted to compatible conversions (for example, conversions between text-based types are allowed; number to date is not).
