Deleting and recovering contacts

How soft delete works and how to recover a deleted contact.

2 min read · Updated Jul 4, 2026

Deleting a contact in Tormano is a soft delete — the record is hidden from lists but retained in the database, so it can be recovered rather than being destroyed on the spot.

Recovering a deleted contact

There is no self-service "Deleted Records" screen in the app today. To bring a soft-deleted contact back, contact support (or use the API) to have it restored — its linked activities, deals/donations, and tags are still attached and come back with it.

Permanently erasing a contact

When you actually need a contact and all their personal data gone — for example a GDPR or CCPA right-to-be-forgotten request — use Settings > Data Compliance > Deletion Requests. You can request one of three deletion types:

  • Anonymize — strip identifying details but keep aggregate records.
  • Contact Erasure — remove the contact and their PII.
  • Full Deletion — remove the contact and its associated data.

These are logged in the immutable audit trail. (This is different from soft delete: erasure is intentionally irreversible.)

Related exports

If you need to hand a contact their data before erasing it, the Data Exports tab on the same page can produce a "GDPR Subject Access Request" export.
