Lifecycle stage is a single dropdown on every contact that tracks their relationship status with your organization.

Customizing the list

Settings > Custom Fields > Contacts > Lifecycle Stage lets you add, rename, or remove stages. Reordering changes how the dropdown appears in forms.

Why it matters

Lifecycle stage is one of the most useful filters in reporting. Common saved views ("Active donors", "Inbound leads from this month", "Board members") use it as the primary filter.

Bulk update

Select multiple contacts in the Contacts list and use Actions > Set Lifecycle Stage to update them all at once. The change is logged per record.

Auto-progression

Workflows can auto-promote contacts when conditions are met. Example: "When a contact's first deal is Won, set lifecycle stage to Customer." Configure in Automation > Workflows.
