Every company can have one parent company and unlimited child companies. This models real-world corporate hierarchies (holding co > subsidiary > division) or nonprofit chapter networks (national > regional > local).

Setting a parent

On the company detail page, edit the Parent Company dropdown. Type to search across all companies in your org. Save.

Why it matters

Reports can roll up by parent. Filter "Companies whose parent is Acme Holdings" to see every Acme subsidiary at once. Same for nonprofit chapters: filter by national org to see every chapter's contacts and donations together.

Limits

A child can have only one parent, but a parent can have unlimited children. Cycles are prevented (you can't make A the parent of B and B the parent of A).

Detail page

The Children tab on a company shows direct subsidiaries plus a count of indirect descendants. Click any child to navigate to its detail page; the breadcrumb shows the chain back to the root.
