Set up parent and child companies

Every company can have one parent company and any number of child companies. Use it for a holding company with subsidiaries and divisions, or for a nonprofit with regional and local chapters.

Setting a parent

On the company’s page, choose a Parent Company (type to search across every company in your organization), then save.

Why it matters

Reports roll up by parent. Filter on companies whose parent is Acme Holdings to see every Acme subsidiary at once, or filter by the national organization to see every chapter’s contacts and donations together.

Limits

A child has one parent; a parent can have any number of children. A company cannot be its own ancestor: if Acme is Beta’s parent, Beta cannot also be Acme’s.

Detail page

When a company has children, its page shows a Subsidiaries section listing them with a count. Click any child to open it, where its Parent Company is shown.
