Parent and child companies

Model holding companies, subsidiaries, and chapter networks.

2 min read · Updated Jul 4, 2026

Every company can have one parent company and unlimited child companies. This models real-world corporate hierarchies (holding co > subsidiary > division) or nonprofit chapter networks (national > regional > local).

Setting a parent

On the company detail page, edit the Parent Company dropdown. Type to search across all companies in your org. Save.

Why it matters

Reports can roll up by parent. Filter "Companies whose parent is Acme Holdings" to see every Acme subsidiary at once. Same for nonprofit chapters: filter by national org to see every chapter's contacts and donations together.

Limits

A child can have only one parent, but a parent can have unlimited children. Cycles are prevented (you can't make A the parent of B and B the parent of A).

Detail page

When a company has children, its detail page shows a Subsidiaries section listing the direct children with a count. Click any child to navigate to its own detail page, where its Parent Company is shown.
